Not an Eulogy

There is a great giant that has fallen. For many it’ll be nameless, but for many more it already is a household name. The giant is a website, and its name is Isohunt.com

Isohunt.com was the behemoth in the bittorrent sharing sites that has followed the now cliche rise-and-fall story of many websites and programs before it, from Napster and Kazaa to Demonoid, etc.

It has become redundantly clear now that his fight will sadly never be over. The Motion Picture Association of America and all of the relics of the old entertainment business model have proved yet again that there is no change in the future of the companies that represent and make up the mainstream entertainment industry.

There will be no change and they will be forgotten as the world moves into a much brighter future for content creators.

There already are many musicians and producers of this and many other forms of entertainment that are building a way of life and a more sustainable business model with the help of the Internet.

Their success is manifesting into sold out shows and financial security the likes of which it was rarely seen before, all based on the free downloads and releases the old industry is so afraid of. The future is now.

This is even more proof that we do not live in a capitalist system. Business was never designed to be this allergic to the changing needs and desires of the people. Capitalism was designed to do the opposite and, the proof is obvious that businesses who do change, adapt, and meet customers with the right product and service are the ones who thrive.

The fact that monopolies and government protection of big business over any other and coercive totalitarian treatment of people for the sake of profit margins is the mark of state authoritarianism.

This tired old story has come back to show the world that there is still a little bite from the old giants, but their pulse is weakening, their time running out. The story is old, it’s boring, it’s lifeless. It’s no longer news worth reporting.

Much love,
Zen Politics
